It’s true, that time of year has arrived once again, the one you all know is my favorite. And of course, I had to go and feed the longing.
This time, I ventured for the first time into the district of Portalegre, with a few plans in mind. Fortunately, they turned out to be fruitful. At other times, inspiration took the lead, guiding me through some unexpected improvisations.
During the afternoon, on a typical spring day, the kind where the warmth doesn’t overpower and everything feels in balance, I found myself immersed in a scene that made me forget the outside world. Just us and nature: birdsong, the low gliding flight of bee-eaters that, almost like choreography, seemed to invite me to stay a little longer.
In hindsight, I think it was the feeling of belonging that convinced me. As if that place gently whispered, “stay, you belong here too”.
I decided I had to return that night, to witness the nocturnal essence of this place nestled right by the Spanish border.
And today, I’m sharing one of those captures I hadn’t planned to make. Even though I had the Milky Way arc in mind, I never imagined it would be in this very spot and looking back with more care, I believe it might be the least light-polluted place I’ve ever been to in every direction.
A surprise that filled me with gratitude and reverence for the days spent here, and for all that this place gave, asking for nothing in return.
